So with the launch of the Apple Watch just around the corner, I have been pondering whether the latest offering from Cupertino might be worth getting at all.
As a watch self confessed watch aficionado, I have been excited at the prospect of a getting another watch, this time not from Rolex, Patek or AP but this time from Apple.
By tradition it said that a traditional gentleman should own at least 3 watches, a sports watch, a dress watch for very special occasions and a everyday watch. So is there really room for another? In this case there may well be an exception to that rule. A smart watch! This is something that will justify its existence and cost by offering so much more than merely keeping time. However until the Apple Watch is released and has been out for at least a year we won’t know if it fulfils its potential.
So, if I like me you plan to get one, its worth considering the the downsides, if you an iPhone and possibly a Macbook and iPad, do you really want to own another device that needs configuring, updating and charging all the time? Probably not.
Another thing to consider, how often will a new one be released? I would estimate every 2 years coinciding with the latest iPhone incarnations. So will it really be worth shelling out an estimated £300+ on an Apple Watch every other year just to keep up with the latest advances? Again probably not…
Anyway check back for a review of the Apple Watch when I finally get my grubby mitts on one.
